This database is under real-time update. Almost every day new photos will be included, also previous identifications, generic assignments, and higher systematic concepts are continuously adapted to the newest results. In order to aid in searching taxa, a survey of the folder structure can be viewed here which permits searching for a genus and which will be updated from time to time (3 clicks necessary for viewing).

New Search Option: Over the folder structure shown by Google Drive in large letters there is now a search field showing a lens and the words “In Google Drive suchen”. Here you can type the genus or species name which you want to locate, or you can search for the herbarium number or the collection date in the case it is written in the filename.

Various authors kindly submitted their contributions, and many data were transferred from the forum Ascofrance. The arrangement of taxa according to their natural relationship and the usage of individual folders for each species (but not for each collection) proved to be very helpful for the purpose of rapid comparison with an unidentified specimen.

Note that many taxa are annotated by unpublished provisional names, also unpublished combinations occur. Specific epithets of files inside a given folder may deviate from the folder name, which is usually unintentious.

This database was previously published as a CD or DVD, the last time in 2005. At present it has a total size of 20 GB.

For a more comfortable usage we recommend to periodically download those parts of interest. Many images have notes in a file “descript.ion” that can be viewed only from the downloaded data when using the free image viewer XnView (or ACDSee).
